Definition

Sense 1

To observe, identify, and report enemy activity; to provide early warning.

"The cavalry squadron screened the brigade's eastern flank."
Sense 2

A security force that provides early warning and observation of the enemy.

"A cavalry screen was deployed fifty kilometres ahead of the main body."

As a verb, this term typically appears in the imperative or infinitive form when giving orders or instructions, and in the past simple or past continuous when describing completed actions in a report.
