Definition

Definition

A state in which forces are committed beyond their sustainable capacity.

"The battalion was at risk of overstretch following the loss of two companies."

How This Term Is Used

This is standard operational vocabulary that appears across situation reports, briefings, and orders. Candidates preparing for STANAG 6001 should be able to both recognise this term when listening or reading, and use it accurately in their own written reports and spoken responses.
