Definition

Sense 1

The point at which an attacking force can no longer maintain momentum or offensive power.

"The attack reached its culminating point and was halted to consolidate."
Sense 2

The point at which an attacker can no longer continue offensive operations.

"The advance had reached its culminating point and a defensive posture was adopted."

How This Term Is Used

This is standard operational vocabulary that appears across situation reports, briefings, and orders. Candidates preparing for STANAG 6001 should be able to both recognise this term when listening or reading, and use it accurately in their own written reports and spoken responses.
