Definition

The least amount of force necessary to achieve the desired effect.

"Soldiers are required to use minimum force consistent with the threat."

How This Term Is Used

This is standard operational vocabulary that appears across situation reports, briefings, and orders. Candidates preparing for STANAG 6001 should be able to both recognise this term when listening or reading, and use it accurately in their own written reports and spoken responses.
