Sense 1

The essential capabilities and activities that support combat operations.

"Combat service support elements kept the forward units supplied throughout the operation."

All support provided by non-combat forces to sustain operations; abbreviated CSS.

How This Term Is Used

This is standard operational vocabulary that appears across situation reports, briefings, and orders. Candidates preparing for STANAG 6001 should be able to both recognise this term when listening or reading, and use it accurately in their own written reports and spoken responses.
