Definition

An activity that contributes to the success of the main effort.

"The supporting effort fixed the enemy in the south to allow the main assault."

How This Term Is Used

This is standard operational vocabulary that appears across situation reports, briefings, and orders. Candidates preparing for STANAG 6001 should be able to both recognise this term when listening or reading, and use it accurately in their own written reports and spoken responses.
