Definition

Start of Exercise — the command to begin a military training exercise.

"STARTEX was declared at 0600 and all units moved to their start positions."

How This Term Is Used

This is standard operational vocabulary that appears across situation reports, briefings, and orders. Candidates preparing for STANAG 6001 should be able to both recognise this term when listening or reading, and use it accurately in their own written reports and spoken responses.
