Definition

Sense 1

A movement to the rear; to move backward away from the enemy.

"The retrograde movement was conducted under enemy pressure."
Sense 2

A movement away from the enemy; includes withdrawal, retirement, and delay.

"The retrograde was conducted in good order to the prepared defensive line."
