Definition

Use of indirect fire or air assets to support ground troops.

"The platoon requested fire support to neutralise the enemy position."

How This Term Is Used

This is standard operational vocabulary that appears across situation reports, briefings, and orders. Candidates preparing for STANAG 6001 should be able to both recognise this term when listening or reading, and use it accurately in their own written reports and spoken responses.
