Definition

Sense 1

A tactical technique where one element fires while another moves.

"The section used fire and movement to advance toward the enemy position."
Sense 2

A tactical technique using fire to suppress the enemy while elements advance.

"Fire and movement allowed the section to close to within grenade range."

How This Term Is Used

This is standard operational vocabulary that appears across situation reports, briefings, and orders. Candidates preparing for STANAG 6001 should be able to both recognise this term when listening or reading, and use it accurately in their own written reports and spoken responses.
