Definition

Fire directed along the length of an enemy formation or position.

"The machine gun was positioned to deliver enfilade fire along the valley."

How This Term Is Used

This is standard operational vocabulary that appears across situation reports, briefings, and orders. Candidates preparing for STANAG 6001 should be able to both recognise this term when listening or reading, and use it accurately in their own written reports and spoken responses.
