Definition

Sense 1

A narrow passage through which forces must pass, creating vulnerability.

"The mountain pass was a chokepoint that the enemy intended to use for an ambush."
Sense 2

A narrow waterway through which maritime traffic must pass.

"Control of the straits provided a critical strategic chokepoint advantage."

How This Term Is Used

This is standard operational vocabulary that appears across situation reports, briefings, and orders. Candidates preparing for STANAG 6001 should be able to both recognise this term when listening or reading, and use it accurately in their own written reports and spoken responses.
